You won’t BELIEVE what just happened. Bro. Ate. The. Football. Yes, you read that right. The actual football. The one we were supposed to be using for the big game tomorrow. How? Why? I’m still trying to figure that out myself.
Let’s rewind. We were practicing our passing routes in the backyard. Everything was going fine, a few wobbly throws here and there, but nothing out of the ordinary. Suddenly, the football goes sailing wide, landing suspiciously close to Bro (who shall remain nameless to protect the guilty… okay, it’s Kevin, but don’t tell him I said that). Next thing I know, I see Kevin…gnawing…on the football. Not just a little nibble, mind you. Full-on, determined chomping. He managed to puncture the thing and was actively trying to tear off pieces.
My immediate reaction, after the initial shock, was disbelief. “Kevin! What are you doing?!” I yelled, probably loud enough for the neighbors to hear. He just looked at me, a piece of deflated football clinging to his teeth, with an expression that can only be described as…guilty amusement? I wrestled the remnants of the football away from him (it smelled surprisingly rubbery) and tried to assess the damage. Let’s just say it’s beyond repair. The pigskin is no more. It has become, tragically, Bro’s snack.
So, now we’re down a football the day before the championship game. And I have a brother who apparently has a craving for synthetic leather and inflatable bladders. I’m still not entirely sure how he managed to eat as much as he did (thankfully, he didn’t swallow the whole thing). We’re heading to the store first thing in the morning to replace it. Hopefully, this incident will remain a bizarre family anecdote and won’t impact our game performance. Wish us luck…and maybe keep any edible-looking sporting equipment away from Kevin in the future.
